Our Story: Four Generations of Tea Drinkers

Our story begins long before our 2011 launch. It’s a story four generations in the making, rooted in a family of male tea-drinkers, from our founder’s great-grandfather to the modern-day connoisseurs who inspire us. Founder Katrina Anderson saw a gap in the market: where was the tea that spoke to the urban, modern, and diverse tea lover? She struggled to find tea ware and venues that her own family would find relatable. So, she created one.

CommodiTeas is the culmination of that legacy. It’s a celebration of the modern tea consumer in all their diversity. It’s fitting that our brand experienced its rebirth in Detroit, a city that defines the word “comeback.” Like Detroit, we use obstacles to set the stage for a heroic journey. We’re a minority-owned, woman-owned, and disability-owned company, and we’re proud to be part of the city’s next chapter.

 

What began as a catering service specializing in tea parties quickly evolved into a full-service retail and wholesale enterprise. We launched our online store, opened our first retail location in Detroit's historic Corktown, and we haven't looked back. Every step of the way, we've been fueled by the same passion that sparked our first tea party: a commitment to quality, community, and great taste.
